Rothwell Temperance Band opens Leeds Best of Brass 09/10
Leeds Best of Brass, acclaimed as the finest series of brass band concerts in the world, opens its 09/10 season on Saturday 31 October with a concert by Rothwell Temperance Band at Morley Town Hall.

The concert will feature a fantastic collection of works for all tastes, including La Califfa by Ennio Morricone, Fawkes the Phoenix from the Harry Potter soundtracks by John Williams and Humming Chorus from Puccini’s Madam Butterfly.

Rothwell Temperance Band (RTB) was formed in 1984 as the junior ‘B’ band to the existing Temperance Band. When the senior band gained sponsorship and changed its name, the B Band took the name. Between 1994 and 1999 the Band worked their way up from Fourth Section through to Championship Section, qualifying for the National Finals and representing Yorkshire at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2000, RTB travelled to Switzerland and became the second English band to become Swiss Open Champions. Four years later the band was promoted to the British Open contest, where it took its deserved place amongst the elite bands in Great Britain. In 2005 RTB was placed fifth at the Open, beating many household names, but this magnificent achievement was eclipsed in 2006 when the band won the International Masters competition, beating the current European and World champions. This year the band had an excellent start to their contesting season winning the Yorkshire Area and being placed first in the Grand Shield.
Tickets for this concert at Morley Town Hall are priced £11 (£9 concessions) and can be purchased from the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or online at www.leedsconcertseason.com. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
