Philharmonia @ Leeds Town Hall - Saturday 27th September 2008
An evening of Beethoven and Berlioz ushered in The Leeds International Orchestral Season for 2008/09 and proved, just by the size of the audience alone, that classical music is very much an important part of cultural life in the city.

Jen Chapin and Rosetta Trio @ Seven Arts Centre, Leeds Friday, September 12th, 2008
Leeds Jazz, now permanently based at the Seven Arts Centre in Chapel Allerton, chose to kick off its Autumn season in a low key manner with an appearance by the New York based bassist Stephan Crump's Rosetta Trio. Crump also utilises the Trio to record material with his wife, singer Jen Chapin, who is the daughter of 70's singer songwriter and social activist Harry Chapin. Each of the two sets were split pretty evenly between instrumentals from the Trio and songs fronted by Chapin.

Is it me or am I getting old? Can’t possibly be the latter as I’m constantly embracing new music, which is said to keep you young?
 Duels To be honest, though, I have had several gripes with the music industry over the years, especially during the last 20 and it’s more to do with the quality of the products rather than their contents.
I grew up listening to the classic albums of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, with and without The Velvet Underground, and Neil

In a couple of weeks time, Leeds' newest venue will open its doors to grateful punters denied the chance of seeing the likes of Foals, Elbow and Mercury Rev without either having to organise a trek to Manchester or Sheffield, or put up with Leeds University's famously eccentric Refectory. Apart from the bizarre ticket pricing policy (a "mere" £14 to see Foals while sitting down with the now bald and cadaverous Tim Booth and the reformed James will set you back a jaw dropping £30), there's much to celebrate about the advent of the Academy franchise in Leeds. But.

Unlike the 2007 version of Party in the Park at Temple Newsam, Leeds, in which you could have been forgiven for thinking that you’d turned up to a traditionally muddy Glastonbury, 2008 proved that the temperatures did finally soar this year to an amazing 27C.
